Heritage Walk by YOUNG SOCIAL ENTERPRENEURS
A Heritage walk program for Patan site was organized by AFYSE Almuni on Saturday, 1st Dec 2007. The main objective of the program was to set an example for running the individual project in collaboration with others and for joint venture on various ideas inside Almuni itself.
The Idea of Heritage Walk was developed and the program was managed by Ms. Edina, AFYSE Ist batch and Mr. Saurav, AFYSE II batch. The expectation of the program was it would help the participants to gain general knowledge on what Heritage site actually are, their importance for our ancestor and now for us, and give opportunity to know how and what some people are doing to preserve the basic norms for the future generation.
The walk began from the Patan Dhoka with eight participants (names are given bottom). According to Sarauv, one should know what heritage site really means, as there are still confusions among the general people that only the core sites like, Hanuman Dhoka, patan Durbar square etc. lie in heritage site. The whole city lies in the heritage site so it is very important to know about each and every corner of the site. He further told us about the features in the city was developed in ancient time. Like wise, Edina enlightened on the role of open space like Bahas, Chowks, Dabalis, water spout, wells in the city for our fore-fathers. The feature of these open spaces are very scientific, according to her, the conditions of street, spout could help you know what sort of occupation is undertaken by the people of that particular place in their times.
The participants got the opportunity to visit Bhandari House (Kwalkhu Cafe), Mr. Jeetendra's House, and Newa Chhen. These structures or houses are well constructed with the ancient designs, features and reused materials. However the owners are utilizing the arts for their good livings. These are good examples and inspiration for any general people, and better learning centres for the students and researchers too.
The walk ended at 11 am with a group photograph.
Overall, the program was fruitful. As the program was based on art, history and walk, the participants were fresh, enthusiastic and interested.
It also helped us to realized that jointly organizing the events is very helpful for other participants directly and indirectly, for example mr. Rajneesh was more than a happy person, since he got to know about the site and open space along with an opportunity to collect information and snaps of the scripts and calligraphies, which is a base of his project or idea. Furhter more, the other participants got a great chance to talk on their ideas linking their own projects too.
